Moonlight Qi Gong

Fall is here, our days becoming shorter and we begin to spend more time in our homes. In general this means we will move less. Qi Gong exercises are gentle and can be done by anyone, anywhere at any time.

Moonlight Qi Gong enhances the quiet, gentle, peaceful yin side of our energy in the fall months, balancing the warm, active, bright sunlight yang energy. These six beautiful movement forms strengthen and align the body, focus the mind, thus reducing stress and tension while bringing body and mind together in the breath. All classes will be offered on Zoom and recording of the classes available to practice with - or if the timing of the class does not work for you.

Avoid the temptation to sit more and instead focus on strengthening and aligning your body, bringing your mind to follow your breath, and reducing the stress and tension of returning workdays.

You don't need to exercise alone.  Enjoy the energy of others also committed to increasing their health, well-being, and peace of mind and body.  The energy (Qi) of the whole Universe awaits to support you.

We're ready to serve you: Register Here.

Every Day Qi Gong Class

Our next class begins at the Takoma Park Community Center on January 7th.  With the busy stressful lives many of us lead today there is even more reason to cultivate our health. We are calling this class Every Day Qi Gong and it is culled from our studies over the past 20 years.  Qi means energy and Gong translates as work or cultivation.  The movements presented will be simple to learn yet extremely powerful in stimulating our energy systems. There is always something special about practicing in a group.  The collective energy supports and guides us deeper than we can go as individuals.
The heath benefits of Qi Gong have been known in China for thousands of years.  Over the past 40 years,  Western science has been studying and documenting the beneficial aspects of these simple stimulative movements.  In July of 2015, the American Journal of Preventive Medicine  reviewed nine studies of Tai Chi (the most popular and well known form of Qi Gong in America) and found those that practice regularly “appear to have a protective effect against age-related cognitive decline.”  Coupled with the physical benefits of Qi Gong practice, we have access to a complete system for gently caring for our total body and mind.

Register with the Takoma Park Recreation Department at this link Every Day Qi Gong

NatureRx @ UMD Earth Day Launch

IMG_5263.jpg

On Earth Day 2019, April 22, the University of Maryland will launch NatureRX@UMD. Shannon Jette, Jennifer Roberts and other members of the campus community have adopted this needed program to invite students to get outside and move. Built upon the success of ParkRx created by Dr. Robert Zarr, the Terps are initiating ways to encourage everyone to embrace their beautiful campus spaces while preserving their health and well being.

We are excited to be offering Qi Gong in the inspiring Garden of Reflection and Remembrance Labyrinth from 1:00 -2:00 pm Monday April 22nd. This event is open to the entire campus community; and, in case of inclement weather, will be held in the Chapel. Learn how you can enhance your health with Qi Gong. Like the terrapin, Qi Gong is slow but powerful. Energize your body as you calm your mind by moving effortlessly with one another. Could this be a prescription for a Healthy Planet? More information about all the events on NatureRx @ UMD Launch Day can be found at http://sph.umd.edu/event/naturerxumd-launch-day

A wide range of practices will be offered to fit your needs. As you cultivate these “Take Fives,” the relaxation response will neutralize the stress response, maximizing your ability to perform your duties without sacrificing your health. Communication, adaptability & creativity will thrive at work and home. How can you not give yourself this gift of health for the New Year, the New You?

The six 75 minute sessions of Minding Your Business will begin January 8th at 7pm in the dance studio of the Takoma Park Community Center. The classes will be spread out over 10 weeks to allow for deep learning and experience. Nudges will be provided throughout the work week via texts and additional written material will be provided electronically. All that is required to begin cultivating a healthy response to workplace stress is an open mind and a willingness to experiment.
